When dealing with house clearances and assisting those who are downsizing our valuers are normally asked to appraise the house contents but often the client doesn’t consider the contents of the garage, garden shed and workshop. However these outbuildings can often be an ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ containing sought after carpentry, garden and other tools.

Over recent months, particularly during times when the restrictions due to Covid have meant that people are spending more time at home, we’ve found a big increase in the interest shown in hand tools and associated items. The auction values achieved during 2020 increased markedly with more and more people bidding via our online platforms, possibly due to people being in their gardens and in workshops doing craft projects.

Some recent examples include a set of Marples Firmer chisels for £70 and a Sorby woodturning chisel for £80
